If new features reduce this enough, they could be a net simplification. For example, adding lambda (even a crippled demi-lambda) means users don't have to know how and when to work around its absence.

I don't think this will work very well for C++, though, because there's so much old code that everyone has to know how to maintain, and because the language is already so complex that many users won't learn the new features.Arcane Sentimenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04144052171693893368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722310642266356003.post-74807061892470585802012-07-21T10:01:24.283+02:002012-07-21T10:01:24.283+02:00@dmbarbour: haha, my thoughts exactly@dmbarbour: haha, my thoughts exactlyAndres Navarrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01817034185792672764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722310642266356003.post-48244140558197465272012-07-20T17:53:44.594+02:002012-07-20T17:53:44.594+02:00Just love how they add features to "simplify&...Just love how they add features to "simplify" the language.dmbarbourhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12370605342201490009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722310642266356003.post-7821322378768695952012-07-20T03:05:37.385+02:002012-07-20T03:05:37.385+02:00Next: On hearing that several implementations of C...Next: On hearing that several implementations of C++11 already exist... :)Arcane Sentimenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04144052171693893368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722310642266356003.post-67250148341746335582012-07-20T01:48:42.503+02:002012-07-20T01:48:42.503+02:00Wait, really? I understand that one of C++'s biggest problems is just how big it is, but a lot of the features (lambdas, range-based for loops, smart pointers) only make the language easier for newcomers. I only list those 3 because they're the one's I've found to be all but indispensable now that I've gotten used to them.Lucretielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02494437271983786072noreply@blogger.com
